If you weren't looking for it, you probably wouldn't notice it. Hidden down a small side street, along a little path, and into a garden, you find Thea Caffea. I certainly wouldn't have noticed it if my friend hadn't decided to take me on a tea adventure one morning!
Thea Caffea is a picture-perfect tea room, traditionally elegant at the same time as being cosy. With several rooms, sofas, and outdoor seats there are plenty of alcoves to hide away in, while also having larger tables for bigger gatherings. Apart from the beautifully decorated china, my favourite part of the tea room is the central table, adorned with delicate cups and saucers. With cups containing loose tea leaves displaying the varieties on offer, this is a great way to branch out in your tea tasting without feeling like you have no idea what you're ordering!
Such an extensive menu of teas, and other drinks, may seem overwhelming at first, but the waitress was very happy to advise my choice and clearly knew a lot about them. Served in lovely tea pots, it was a very cosy morning out for a catch up with my friend.
The price was slightly more expensive than standard coffee shop tea bags in hot water, but I found it to be appropriate to the quality and surroundings. The menu at this family-run business has great afternoon teas and sandwiches, and often has seasonal menus with different types of fresh food on offer, making each visit interesting. Whether you are just going for a drink as a break from the busy city, or an extravagant afternoon tea, Thea Caffea offers a quaint experience and an abundance of tea with a lovely atmosphere to relax in.
Best: quaint, unique style.
Worst: unlikely to find it unless looking!
